Val | 8 Months Along | Minneapolis Maternity Photographer

This is Val. I still remember the day she moved in next door to me. I was 6 and she was 5. I was getting ready for bed and happened to looked out my window to see two little girls playing on MY swing set. So I yelled out to them that it was mine and they had to get off of it. Val yelled back that my mom said it was okay so after asking for her phone number 20 times and her saying they didn’t have a phone yet, we made plans to play the next day. That little conversation was over 22 years ago. We’ve been through all the major life moments so far together – those awkward middle school days, first boyfriends and first heartbreaks, college, being in each other’s weddings, and now a baby! I can’t believe my closest friend is about to be a mom and I could not be happier for her and her husband (who happens to be her high school sweetheart:) )

I had a lot of fun taking these photos – Val looks so beautiful in them and so perfectly pregnant. She even put up with me posing and styling her for images I KNEW she wouldn’t even want ha! I’m so excited to meet little Grayson next month and take photo after photo of him. He’s going to be funny and smart and so loved – Val and Nick will be such amazing parents! Looking at these photos makes me realize just how grown-up Val and  I are now. We spent years watching Home Improvement (Who didn’t have a crush on JTT?), playing endless hours of Donkey Kong Country, and so many summer days swimming in her pool. There really aren’t too many childhood memories I have that don’t involve her in some way – we even worked at the bank together in high school. She is the kind of friend where we don’t talk for a few weeks and all of a sudden we are having a two hour phone conversation and didn’t even realize it! Needless to say I love her a lot and cannot wait to watch her raise a family and see her kids make the same kinds of memories that we had growing up :)

Kelly & Jared | Engaged | Minneapolis Engagement Photographer

Minnesota has seen a much different winter than previous years; unseasonably warm and barely any snow for the entire season so far. That sounds great – unless you are a photographer who wants to do an outdoor ice skating engagement shoot! Well lucky for Kelly and Jared, we got the ONE freezing cold, very winter-like weekend of the season with a dusting of snow included!

Kelly picked Centennial Lakes in Edina to do their shoot at. We spent some time walking around the rink first. There are lots of little nooks and crannies at this place…swinging benches and stone walls, bridges, little pathways. After about 30 minutes of standing in the ice cold wind, we had to make it back to the warming house for some much needed heat.

Both Kelly and Jared were hockey players growing up. She played through high school and he did so through college, and they are both huge Gopher hockey fans, so it only made sense for us to get out on the ice for a bit!

Kelly and Jared will be getting married on a golf course overlooking a lake in northern Minnesota this summer and I will be there to capture every moment. They are getting married at the very place they met while working summer jobs years ago and I can’t think of a more perfect place to do so! I am so excited to photograph another wedding up north! (See Christie and Bob’s wedding, which I photographed up in Lutsen, MN last summer.) Kelly and Jared – can’t wait to see you in a few months! Time is going to fly by so enjoy every moment leading up to it:)

Gianna | One Year Old | Minnesota Children Portrait Photographer

Remember Gianna? Well luckily the SECOND time is a charm! Gianna was much happier when I brought my camera along to take her One Year photos last month.I cannot believe one year has already gone by! She is toddling around everywhere and has lots to say, and I listened to every word even if I couldn’t understand a thing:)

That little red rocking chair is actually Shelby’s (mommy) from when she was little. We did a little Christmas themed shoot with lights and that awesome little silver polka dotted dress. I can’t believe how cute clothes that small and trendy are!! And how about that smile:) We did a lot of peek-a-boo from behind the camera!

Shelby and I had been patiently waiting for snow as these photos were supposed to be taken at the arboretum in town. Sadly (but not TOO sad!) there was no snow for us to play in during the day. Mother Nature decided to send the snow down as we walked home from the outdoor portion of our shoot! Brown grass and all, I am IN LOVE with these photos of Gianna. She has got the most beautiful, big brown eyes! This next image just kills me.

Isn’t that jacket adorable? I love the contrast of that huge tree, with her tiny little self and that poofy purple jacket surrounded by all the golden colored grass.

All of these images perfectly capture Gianna’s personality. She is one sweet, cuddly, happy baby…although I suppose she’s a toddler now. I absolutely love watching Shelby with her little girl. She is as great a mom as I knew she would be! Shelby is calm and patient; she’s goofy and laughs a lot with Gianna. Joel is just as great – Gianna’s eyes just lit up and her little arms reached out for him when he walked in the door after work. When I first met Shelby 6 years ago, the thought that she’d become one of my closest friends and I’d get to watch her raise a family never crossed my mind…now I don’t know what I’d do without her friendship! Joel & Shelby – you two are amazing parents to one amazing little girl and I’m so happy I get to watch her grow!!
